Antique Swedish Slant-top Writing Desk

A gorgeous marriage of antique character and thoughtful design, this desk is the missing piece in your cottage-core seaside home. Furniture of this era was meant to be used practically, and while that's certainly been the case, the robust design bears the wear of decades past more gracefully than most. Sturdy construction and iron hardware that would make a LoTR fan blush ensure that you'll have the foundation to bring your most grandiose thoughts to life.

While the layout of the desktop gives more than enough room for the most chaotic of composition frenzies, the top then swings back - courtesy of two large hinges - to reveal a further degree of storage. Perfect for large drafts, charcoal studies, oversized K-Pop posters, or whatever may strike your creative or professional fancy, modesty is not the intention here. Great care has been taken with the construction, as dovetail joints brace each corner (still very much tight to boot) and tapered joinery keep the inside boards aligned. The base can break down into individual parts, and is held together on the ends by tapered wooden tenons.

In an effort not to combat the pre-existing natural patina on the piece we chose to stick with a Linseed Oil application type. It enhances the soft aspects of the desks natural patina, as well as giving it that extra little sparkle and shine.

We'd acquired this piece a few years back and it was claimed to be of Swedish origin by the seller. The wood is likely either Scots Pine or Norwegian Spruce.
