Restored Mid Century Modern Walnut Sofa with Customized Walnut Endtables

A unique piece in more than one respect and a sofa we are ecstatic to be able to offer! High-end furniture often stands out in the details, and this frame goes above-and-beyond what would be expected from typical manufacturing. From the use of solid walnut parts (the front edge and legs), to the form of bent ply struts that support the back cushion, care was taken throughout the design with elegant curves, tapers, and angles that create an elegant and well-proportioned whole; an exemplar of the philosophy that good design is not about any exaggerated feature or gimmick, but about a holistic approach. It's a super attractive sofa even without cushions! The newly made cushions are upholstered in a charcoal-colored fabric.

In an act of creative upcycling, we replaced the original and damaged white laminate end table parts with solid walnut boards that we built with curvatures to remain in conversation with the original design. Home furniture is lived in, and we believe design should reflect real-life situations one would expect to encounter. The idea of having an end table directly abutting the sofa cushion always made me nervous. Surely one would eventually spill a drink as most humans and startled cats do, so we built in a thin spill guard to protect the cushion fabric in such a scenario.

Although there's no documentation, based on the design, materials, and craftsmanship we believe the sofa to be a Pearsall daybed variant.

Restored by Niji to emphasize the natural characteristics of the wood grain.
