Restored Dania Two-Piece Compact Cabinet and Hutch by Merton Gershun for American of Martinsville

Designed by Merton Gershun for American of Martinsville, this highboy combines qualities from several of the nations who were at the forefront of design at the time. Danish proportions mix with American robustness and brass details, along with some Italian sass in the form of louvered drawer faces. Exceptional build quality, with the right amount of heft to let you know it's been around for 60 years, and can easily do another 60.

This is a two-piece unit: the top hutch a fixed shelf and just tall enough for an average-sized bottle of whiskey, while the bottom cabinet has 3 drawers cascading in size.

Restored by Niji to emphasize the natural character of the walnut. Often, mid-century furniture (not just the Dania series) was covered in thick finishes and stains ostensibly to have pieces appearing more uniform for catalog purchases. We think that this flattening of the aesthetic is no longer necessary for those who love the variations in color and texture that wood has. Some minor wear may remain.
