Niji Model 4 Rebuild - Young Manufacturing Co. Curved Triple Dresser

Young Manufacturing Co.'s series of dressers and consoles have (rightly, in our opinion), become highly sought-after pieces in the arsenal of any Mid Century Modern collector, but sometimes you come across one that appears to be too far gone to be saved by traditional methods. Not ones to give up - in addition to being irredeemable hoarders - we endeavored to apply our woodworking skills to do a complete rebuild of the top. What was originally made of horribly worn walnut veneer over water damaged and swollen particle board, we replaced with solid walnut cut to the same shape and dimensions of the original. The walnut was selected to have an attractive pattern of grain ripples and knots, which we emphasized with the placement of true maple butterflies .

Retaining its original character, the sculpted walnut pulls extend the full length of the credenza, tapering in the middle and expanding again towards the end, creating a sense of unity throughout the piece. The body of the credenza emulates this tapered by having the front profile curve in the same way. A geometrically-cut floating leg base adds some sass. Somewat flashy, but kept homey with the warm tones of the rich, red amber walnut. A wonderful addition to whatever space you think needs its combination of storage and visual panache. 9 drawers in all.

Restored and rebuilt by Niji to emphasize the natural qualities of the walnut, and we hope you also think it's better-than-original :)

Other Model 4 Rebuilds will follow a similar pattern of full top recreation with thoughtfully placed contrasting butterflies, along with a total restoration of the rest of the piece.
